No specific academic expertise is required. We welcome applicants of all races, ethnicities, and gender identities. Project Idea
A project that impacts mental health awareness or challenges stigma. Can be art, research, program creation, or advocacy work. Must be completable in 6 weeks.
A Mentor
Someone who can guide you through your project — a teacher, coach, professional, or community member. In rare circumstances, Jared's Fund can help you find one if needed.
Two Essays or Videos
Responses to three questions (300–600 words each, or 2-min video). One short answer (150 words max). Videos can be uploaded directly in the application.
A Recommendation Letter
At least one letter from a non-family member who knows you. Letters can be uploaded directly in the application.
Stipend & Structure
Fellows receive a $2,500 stipend for the six-week program. Group applicants (maximum of three people) split the stipend equally. The first half is paid in week one; the second half upon submission of your final project and synopsis. Mandatory group meetings are held on Mondays between 10am-12pm and Wednesdays between 12-2pm. This Fellowship should be considered a full-time job consisting of a minimum of 35 hours a week. Besides the mandatory group meetings, when the remaining hours per week are completed is up to each individual and their mentor. However, please do not apply if vacations, sports, another job, or classes will interfere with your ability to devote the required time to this venture.
Frequently Asked Questions
Jared was tenacious and determined; eager to learn and explore, and willing to put sweat, blood, and tears into his accomplishments. His love languages were debate and adventure. He pushed me out of my comfort zone again and again. I saw so many places, met so many people, and tried so many new things with Jared. He taught me to make the most of this beautiful world. I think of Jared on every adventure.
